Buckhead, located on the north side of downtown, is known for its high-end shopping at boutiques in Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza, and for its high-end restaurants like Bones on Piedmont, Chops on West Paces Ferry, and The Palm on Peachtree. For a quainter, more casual evening, try Anis on Grandview. Buckhead’s Financial Center is a mecca for Atlanta’s movers and shakers, who enjoy a drink after work at Blue Pointe and Prime on Peachtree, and Aja on Lenox Road. Schools include some of Atlanta’s finest – Morris Brandon and Sarah Smith. Luxury high rises start around $150,000-$200,000 for a one bedroom, one bathroom. Smaller homes start around $400,000. Older mansions on multiple acres run in the millions.

Midtown, located between downtown and Buckhead, is home to Atlanta’s arts with the High Museum, the Alliance Theatre and the historic Fox Theatre. Enjoy dinner before a show at some of Atlanta’s coolest restaurants – One Midtown Kitchen on Dutch Valley Road, Einsteins on Juniper Street, and Front Page News on Crescent Avenue, to name a few. On weekends, you’ll find the jewel of Midtown, Piedmont Park, filled with couples, families, and dogs enjoying the walking trails and lakes. A mix of luxury condos and renovated Craftsman bungalows range in price from $200,000-$1,500,000.

Chastain Park, located just north of Buckhead, boasts one of the biggest parks in Atlanta, with recreational facilities including a public swimming pool, horse barn, tennis courts, baseball fields, miles of walking paths, a golf course, and fabulous kids’ playground. The homes in Chastain Park typically sit on larger lots and tend to attract growing families. Warren T. Jackson Elementary is one of Atlanta’s best public schools. Smaller ranch homes are priced from $400,000, and newer, two-story homes from range from $800,000 up to $3,000,000.

Inman Park, located east of downtown and north of I-20, is one of Atlanta’s trendiest neighborhoods. A great mix of new and old, turn-of-the-century Victorian homes share the space with luxury town homes and warehouses converted into sophisticated lofts. A favorite weekend destination, Inman Park boasts excellent dining at restaurants like Fritti and Soto Soto on North Highland, and Rathbuns on Krog Street. Candler Park is a slightly more affordable version of nearby Inman Park and is within walking distance to Little Five Point’s funky bars, restaurants and shops. Walk through skeleton jaws to get a beer at the Vortex or pick up a bizarre trinket at Junkman’s Daughter. Grab some oatmeal pancakes at the Flying Biscuit on McLendon Avenue, then work them off on the walking paths in Candler Park. Parents rave about the local elementary school, Mary Lin. One bedroom/one bath condos start around $100,000. Single family homes range from $400,000-$900,000.

Ansley Park, located in the shadow of Midtown’s high-rises, is one of Atlanta’s oldest and most gracious neighborhoods. Its winding streets are filled with grand, historic homes with columns and wide front porches. It’s no surprise that Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s priciest in-town neighborhoods. The least expensive house is more the $500,000 and most expensive is close to $4,000,000.

Morningside, east of Midtown and Ansley Park, attracts young families who like a neighborhood feel but want to live in the city. Many of its streets are lined with quaint bungalows, but don’t be deceived by their modest appearance. Inside, you’ll often find extensive renovations with high-end finishes with prices ranging from $350,000-$1,500,000. Parents seek out the public school Morningside Elementary. Buy a home in Morningside, and you can walk to Piedmont Park and to great restaurants like Caramba Cafe, Alon’s Bakery, and Doc Chey’s Noodle House, all on North Highland Avenue.

Virginia Highland, like its neighboring community, Morningside, appeals to a young couples and families. It gets its name from its epicenter – the intersection of Virginia Avenue and North Highland. There you’ll find some of Atlanta’s most popular spots. Enjoy dinner at classic restaurants like Murphy’s and Aikens Park on North Highland, sip a beer at Highland Tap across the street, and find all the last fashions at trendy boutiques like Bill Hallman and Mitzi & Romano. A few blocks away, hear the Blues at one of Atlanta’s best clubs, Blind Willie’s. You can buy a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo for under $250,000 and a 3 bedroom/3 bath home from between $400,000-$650,000.
